State House, Nairobi. August 19, 2026 - Our Board Chairman, Most Rev. Anthony Muheria, Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nyeri and Vice Chairman of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), who on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, joined fellow senior Catholic Church leaders in a fruitful meeting with His Excellency President William Samoei Ruto at State House, Nairobi.

Archbishop Muheria accompanied the Chairman of KCCB and Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kisumu, Most Rev. Maurice Muhatia, alongside the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi, Most Rev. Philip Anyolo, and the Coadjutor Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Mombasa, Most Rev. Dominic Kimengich. The meeting reaffirmed the Catholic Church's commitment to working with the Government in addressing issues affecting the nation, while continuing to uphold her prophetic mission of promoting ethical leadership, human dignity, peace and the common good.

A Voice for Faith-Based Healthcare and Training

As an institution proud to be affiliated with Consolata Hospital Mathari under the Archdiocese of Nyeri, we were especially encouraged that the Bishops used the opportunity to raise the critical role played by Catholic health facilities in providing healthcare to millions of Kenyans, often in areas where access to medical services remains limited. Among the issues discussed was progress made under the Social Health Authority (SHA) payment regime, with the Bishops calling for continued improvement in the timely settlement of claims owed to Faith-Based Health Facilities, a matter that speaks directly to the mission of institutions like ours, which train the healthcare workforce serving these very facilities.

Investing in the Youth of Today and Tomorrow

The Bishops also carried forward concerns from the recently concluded 21st AMECEA Plenary Assembly, emphasizing the urgent need to accompany, mentor, and empower young people. "The youth are our future and our present," the Bishops affirmed, calling for more opportunities for young people to engage meaningfully with leaders and contribute to shaping the nation's future. This message resonates deeply with our own calling as a medical training institution, where we walk daily with young Kenyans as they prepare to serve their communities through the healing ministry of healthcare.

Guarding Peace, Unity and the Common Good

The Bishops raised concerns over threats to the nation's peace and social fabric, including the emerging "goon culture," and deliberated on the state of the education and healthcare systems, as well as the need for greater political hygiene. They were also joined in reflection on environmental stewardship, drawing inspiration from Pope Francis's encyclical Laudato Si', which calls for integral ecological conversion and responsible care for our common home. Throughout the discussion, the Bishops emphasized that the Church's concern is not partisan politics but the quality of public life and the moral direction of the nation, a conviction that continues to guide the values we instill in our students at Sister Leonella Consolata Medical College.
