NAIROBI, Kenya, August 5, 2026 - SLCMC Board Chairman challenges school leaders to go beyond academics at national principals' conference
Sister Leonella Consolata Medical College's Board Chairman, Archbishop Anthony Muheria, this week called on Catholic school principals across Kenya to root their leadership in faith, service, and purpose - reminding them that the true measure of Catholic education lies not in examination results or facilities, but in the character of the people it forms.
The Archbishop was speaking during the 11th Edition of the Catholic Schools Principals Association of Kenya (CaSPAK) conference, held from August 4-6, 2026, at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), where Catholic school leaders from across the country gathered to reflect on leadership and the future of Catholic education.
Archbishop Muheria reminded participants that a Catholic school's lasting legacy is found in the kind of men and women it forms - people grounded in faith, guided by virtue, and committed to the common good. He urged principals to see their institutions as centers of evangelization and human formation, where spiritual growth and academic achievement go hand in hand.
Drawing on the image of a driver navigating a road, the Archbishop described leadership as the capacity to read circumstances wisely, discern the right path, and guide others toward it with clarity and purpose. Effective principals, he said, are not those who claim to have all the answers, but those who listen - to teachers, students, parents, and staff - and prayerfully unite people around a shared mission.
Referencing the film The Blind Side, Archbishop Muheria spoke of how one person's decision to see potential in a struggling young man changed the entire course of his life. He challenged educators to extend that same belief to every learner who walks through their doors, regardless of background, insisting that when educators nurture potential, they become instruments through which lives are transformed.
Throughout his address, the Archbishop emphasized that Catholic school leadership must mirror the servant leadership of Christ - marked by humility, love, and self-giving service rather than authority for its own sake. He called on principals to intentionally weave faith formation and leadership formation together, so that every dimension of school life reflects the deeper mission of Catholic education.
As a Consolata Missionary institution under Archbishop Muheria's chairmanship, Sister Leonella Consolata Medical College continues to draw inspiration from this vision. In training the next generation of nurses, clinical officers, and healthcare professionals, SLCMC remains committed not only to academic and clinical excellence, but to forming compassionate, servant-hearted leaders for the Church, Consolata Hospital Mathari, and the wider community.
The Archbishop's address closed with a call that has since become a rallying theme for Catholic educators nationwide: "Build faith. Form leaders. Lead with purpose."
