PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT

 “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being; not merely absence of disease or infirmity”, (WHO, 1948).  Having this in mind, Sister Leonella Consolata Medical College wishes to prepare Christian servant  leaders in the field of heath  to serve worldwide.The institution aims at training a health care  leaders in accordance with the acceptable standards that are stipulated by the healthcare education  professional regulatory body which will be achieved by integrated theoretical and clinical experience.Our college courses which prepare  competent, accountable and creative Nurse who can function both in the Community or in the  health facility.The institution believes that during training, the health care professional  will continually carry out his/her religious values using Medical Legal Ethics. He/she will hold  human dignity to the highest esteem and selflessly give pastoral care to the sick and the dying alike.

1. DIPLOMA IN KENYA REGISTERED COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING AND DIPLOMA KENYA REGISTERED NURSE MIDWIFERY

We to train a first  level Nurse who is proficient in General Nursing, Midwifery and Community Health.  We  dedicate our efforts towards empowering the Nurse we train, with proper Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes to promote Health, prevent illness, Manage and Rehabilitate Individuals, Families and the Communities that may be afflicted by ill health.Our training  focuses on community oriented health care with an emphasis on community participation. Our graduates shall be able to cope up with the  dynamic change in both patients and diseases in the 21st Century.  This is due to factors such as population diversity and emergence of new, chronic and lifestyle diseases.  There has also been some changes in health care access which are  are of particular concern to this country.

Entry Requirements 

Mean grade of KCSE C plain and above, English/Kiswahili C plain & above, Biology C plain and above,

C Minus and above in Mathematics, Chemistry or Physics (for DIPLOMA both programmes).

Duration: 3 Years

2.DIPLOMA IN PERIOPERATIVE THEATER TECHNOLOGY

This is a competency based level 6 course for allied and healthcare professions i.e a perioperative  theatre technologist(PTT)  is an immersive program designed to impart the required knowledge, skills and attitude (worker behaviors)  for the dynamic operating theatre and surgical team. The success of the procedures and safety of patients depends largely on the reliability of the Perioerative  Theatre Technologist.

Entry Requirements

KCSE Mean Grade of C- or & Above.  or a Certificate in Perioperative Theater Technology from an accredited institution.

 

Duration: Diploma 2 ½ years while

Intake: January, May & September

Mode of study: Full Time and Part Time and Open Distance Electronic Learning.

Regulatory and Assesment Body: Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority Curriculum Development Assessment and Certification Council (TVETCDAC).

3. DIPLOMA IN HIV/AIDS TESTING,COUNSELLING AND CLINICAL PRACTICE SETTING.

This course is intended to equip the trainee with knowledge,skills,attitudes and values which respond to their needs and other peoples mental through reflection and evaluation of self and others .This will allow the graduate to work with all in the society .To achieve this the course is structured towards understanding the psychology of human beings and their diverse counselling need to work effectively  as a Counsellor.area  of application will include HIV and AIDS Counselling in Community and Clinical Settings, guidance and counselling in institutions of learning. Addiction counselling and spiritual counselling among others.

KCSE Mean Grade of C Minus and above or a certificate in counselling from an accredited institution.

Duration: Two Years

4. DIPLOMA IN COMMUNITY HEALTH

This is a competency  course is intended to equip the trainee with knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enable him or her to perform relevant duties to social work, community health and development .A graduate of this course will be able to work in salaried or self-emloyment. 6.DIPLOMA IN HEATH SERVICES SUPPORT

The Health Services Support (HSS) course prepares trainee for a health care career responsible for providing direct client care. Working collaboratively with other members of the health care team, they assist clients to achieve their optimal level of functioning and wellness. A graduate from the Health Services Support  course will be competent and confident in performing skills in a variety of settings including health care facilities, private community agencies and individual homes. While they primarily work with older individuals, this varies depending on the work setting.

1. PALLIATIVE CARE AND GERONTOLOGY

Delivering care to elderly, dying patients is a present and future challenge. This course prepares the graduates to effectively provide palliative and gerontology care to clients.

Requirements:

KCSE Mean Grade of D and above D and above in English or Kiswahili and Biology, D and above in Mathematics and any chemical or physical sciences
